"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her."
EPHESIANS 5:25
THE STORY BEHIND THIS.
For the first sixteen years of my marriage, I struggled to be the kind of husband I ought to have been because I did not fully understand my role.
I tried hard, at least I thought I did, I provided for my family but I was never truly committed to them. I showed up but was never fully present. Something was missing. It was a gradual build-up of unresolved things, and over time it created a drift away from the very place I wanted to be. The more I tried, the more tired I became.
I blamed everything and everyone.
If only my wife were more supportive. If only work was less stressful. If only I had more time. If only I had more money. The list went on. The one person I did not blame was myself. How could I.
Then, at what felt like the lowest point, God stepped in. Through my wife's prayers and the honesty of a few good friends, I began to see something I had never seen clearly before. The truth about what it means to love a wife the way God intended. Not the version shaped by culture or good intentions, but the kind of love that can only come from Christ.
That is what Cleaving Husband is built on.

WHERE EVERY BROTHER BEGINS
Before the regular letters begin, every brother receives five foundational articles. They do not tell you what to do. They are foundational truths on the love you are called to give, and where the love must come from.
1 - Marriage Is A Privileged Calling
For a husband, marriage is a calling to love his wife as Christ loved the church. When this truth is properly understood, the realisation that this calling is not a burden but a real privilege.
2 - A Calling to Express God's Love
The love God calls a husband to is not romantic love. It is unconditional, sacrificial, and sourced entirely from God, in Christ.
3 - The Model and Source of Love
Jesus Christ models this love perfectly. He also is the source. He is the Vine a husband must remain in. The love God calls a husband to show his wife cannot be sustained without abiding in Christ daily.
4 - The One Who Keeps You Loving
The Holy Spirit has been sent to help us love like Christ loved. More than a distant helper, the Holy Spirit is a close companion that is present in every conversation, and every ordinary moment of a marriage.
5 - Walk Together
This journey of cleaving and loving is deeply personal but also much harder if walked alone. Brotherhood, in this context, is essential for men who carry the same personal calling, walking honestly together.
CLEAVING BROTHERS
You are not meant
to walk alone.
BROTHERHOOD
Men on the same road
A small community of men who have read the same foundations, carry the same calling, and have decided they would rather not carry it in isolation.

IDENTITY AND STRUGGLE
When loving her doesn't come naturally
Most men assume love should feel instinctive. When it doesn't, they assume something is wrong with them. Something different is going on entirely.
"Apart from me you can do nothing." — John 15:5
SACRIFICE AND RESPONSIBILITY
When serving her feels one-sided
When a man gives without any visible return, the temptation to stop is powerful. Christ gave without guarantee of return. That is the model.
"Gave Himself up for her." — Ephesians 5:25
"
SPIRITUAL DEPENDENCE
When I realise I can’t do this on my own.
That moment of honest recognition is not a failure. It is the beginning. This love was never meant to come from inside you alone.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” - Phillipians 4:13
CONFLICT AND COMMUNICATION
When we keep having the same argument
The same tension. The same words. The same result. It can feel like nothing will ever change. But the problem is usually not the argument itself.
"Love is patient." — 1 Corinthians 13:4
EMOTIONAL DISTANCE
When we feel like strangers
Distance rarely arrives suddenly. It builds quietly, through small choices and small withdrawals. And it can be undone the same way.
"Love always hopes." — 1 Corinthians 13:7
IDENTITY AND STRUGGLE
When I feel like I am failing as a husband
The pressure of the standard can feel challenging. But God’s grace in Christ Jesus is able to overcome all challenges.
"My grace is sufficient for you." — 2 Corinthians 12;9
